These playoffs have been a strange study in how Cubs fans feel about managers past and present. With a playoff series against Dusty Baker, certainly there were memories that had to be absolved or buried or whatever you felt you needed to do. And I don’t think Dusty did anything particularly wrong in that series, except for maybe batting Werth second for the last two games and getting his story garbled on Stephen Strasburg. And it nearly worked out for him, and there’s not much you can do about baseball gremlins enveloping your entire team for one game as they did in Game 5.
Cubs fans seem to have a more and more complicated relationship with their current manager, too.
